Toddler Bed Sets--Girl Ideas
It's time for a big girl bed! When you move your daughter from her crib to the big girl bed, it's time for her to celebrate...and also be a little scared. The crib has been the only place she's known to sleep and a toddler bed can seem enormous.
One of the best ways to combat these fears is to look for toddler bed sets that she likes. When she picks out her own sheets and blankets, it involves her in the process and she feels more in control, which means that putting her in bed will be easier.
Look at some of these sample girl bed sets available at Amazon to get you started with ideas.
Dora the Explorer Bed Set
You can't go wrong with lovable Dora the Explorer. She's a favorite among little girls and parent's needn't be worried. Dora is smart, active, and adventurous. She's a great roll model for little girls. Encouraging your child to take an interest can also help her to learn Spanish, Dora's second language.
Flowered Bed Set
You don't have to go with a character, however. The cute flowered bed set here is likely to brighten up every room. The big advantage to a bed set like this one is that it's more difficult to grow out of. She won't be wanting a new bed set next week.
Colored Bed Sets
Your child may prefer something that's a bit less busy than the other girl toddler bed sets pictured here. For example, a simple set with polka dots or stripes in a favorite color may be all she needs. Try to guide her toward pastel colors, which may be more calming, making it easier to sleep.
Noah's Ark Bed Set
If your family is religious, a Noah's Ark bed set may be the right one for you. This particular set fits well in either a boy or girl room, so you can save it for your next child and not have to worry about gender. Your child will feel safe with all of the animals on the boat.
Princess Bed Set
If your little girl likes to fancy herself a princess (and what girl doesn't?), then something like this style may be what she's after. I like this one because it's princess-like, but doesn't feature the usual Disney princesses, which means that it allows for a bit more imagination. Your daughter isn't trying to be one of the Disney princesses--she's a princess all on her own.
Making the Change to a Toddler Bed
Now that you've got a great toddler bed set for your little girl, you've got to get her to start sleeping in her own bed. Here are some tips for making that happen.
- Make a big deal out of it leading up to the day. Talk about what a big step it is to move to a "big girl bed" and how proud you'll be when she does it.
- Donate your old crib to a younger baby. This will make her feel as though her "sacrifice" is at least helping someone out.
- Use guard rails. Not only does this prevent her from falling out of the bed, but it also closes off the bed, making it feel more like a crib.
- Put a night light in the room. It can help the room (and new big bed) seem less scary.
- Sleep on her floor the first few nights. This can make her feel safe and secure in her new bed.
The first few nights may be a bit rough, but after awhile, she'll start to feel more comfortable and will actually look forward to getting into bed.
